With heat in the 90s here in Raleigh, today’s cuppa is a frosty glass of iced tea full of mint grow in a pot out front. Ahh! So cooling and refreshing.
Now, let’s travel back in time together.
It was in the fall of 2013, fairly early in Firefall’s partnership with Pastor David in Myanmar. He sent us a photo of little Su, a 3-year-old girl suffering from a facial tumor. David and his team were visiting door to door. His plea, which accompanied the photo, pierced my heart: “Can someone help this little girl?”
A few days later, I was impressed to share about Su over tea at a friend’s home. She is a partner with us and a woman of prayer and compassion. She immediately asked how she could invest in helping Su. This began a multi-year monthly investment in Su’s medical visits and check-ups in far-away towns, supplements, creams and enhanced nutrition. All of her care was orchestrated by Pastor David and team.
Su needed to be a few years older before the final procedure could take place. This occurred in 2015 in Thailand, sponsored by Firefall donors and covered in much prayer. A facial surgery specialist from Japan “just happened” to be offering training seminars for doctors in the Thai city. He was happy to operate on Su. The results were good, resulting in Su gaining confidence and more willingness to be around others.
Su has stayed in contact with Pastor David and House of Glory teams over the years. She and her older brother came to faith in Jesus Christ a few years ago after being touched by God’s love through her care, attending youth group and the reading of the Burmese evangelistic Bible with her family. Her parents remain Buddhist. She joyfully shares her story with neighbors and friends in her village. She is a faithful member of the youth group. A cell leader visits the family with regularity, offering care and encouragement.
Sadly, Su’s brother died a few months ago while working in Thailand. And her father recently became paralyzed because of many health issues.
Su is 16 years old now. At present, she is home caring for her father while her mother sells meats and vegetables door to door to support the family. Su has a dream to one day have her own small shop to sell meat and vegetables in her village and share her story of God’s love.
When Pastor David sent us recent photos of Su, I began thinking how one small act of compassion can be multiplied in the hand of God for his purposes. I am amazed once again at how the Lord conducts us in a symphony of love around the globe.
“He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given.”
Proverbs 19:17“Assuredly, I say to you, in as much as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” Matthew 25:40
Please pray for Su and the salvation of her father and mother. Jim and I are grateful to serve among loving servants like Pastor David and House of Glory members. We thank God for every Firefall partner and your caring, generous hearts. May we all continue to “live to give.”
May your joy be full,
Nancy
